Started the day a little later after our late night or should I say early morning. Quite cold out this morning - about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday. Took the bus downtown to midtown to Grand Central Station - quite spectacular - recently restored for its centenary this year. Besides platforms, Grand Central has restaurants and various fast food outlets surrounding the Dining Concourse on the level below the Main Concourse, as well as delis, bakeries, newsstands, a gourmet and fresh food market, and more than forty retail stores.
Had read the Oyster Bar Restaurant has the best oysters in New York. It did not disappoint - not only were its oysters superb but clam chowder, crab and scallops were first class- definitely a meal to remember.
We finally finished lunch at 3.30 and headed to look at Fifth Avenue, then the Chrysler Building - with its beautiful lobby and painted mural ceiling. Rockefeller Centre was next with a visit to Top of the Rock on the 67th floor. Even though today was rather dull and overcast, the view was still good but very very cold and blustery.
Stopped off at Zabars on the way home to pick up some essentials. Zabars has been a NY landmark since 1934 and sells smoked salmon, baked goods, sandwiches, wonderful breads, desserts, coffees (the aroma of the coffee was amazing), oils, vinegars, olives and an astounding array of cheeses.
