Fethiye

This morning we visited the ancient city of Xanthos dating back to 9th century BC - present day excavations were taking place as we walked around. Some beautiful scenery - beaches on the way. We had lunch on the river near the Siklikent Gorge before visiting Kayakoy, dating back to the 7th century BC - now a ghost town when after WW1 the Greek population were ordered out of Turkey and back to Greece.  It became derelict and was further destroyed by earthquakes. We continue on to Fethiye on a bay surrounded by pine forests - a wonderful view of the boats and harbour from our room. We drove to the local fish market and had a great meal of fish, calamari and prawns. We bought our fish from the markets and took it to the local restaurants to cook it for us - very nice.
