We said goodbye to our neighbours last night - Lydia and Brian from Glasgow - a lovely young couple with 2 small children they left with mum while they had a much deserved break. As arranged, Igor's cousin was at our door at 5.30am to take us on the 20 min drive to the airport - very small terminal to say the least but then most of Dubrovnik's visitors would arrive by cruise ship. A 50min flight to Croatia's capital of Zagreb and then a 3hr wait for our 2hr flight to Istanbul. All went without a hitch and much to our surprise we were given a quite nice meal on the last flight. On most of our previous Europe flights there is an in-flight menu too be purchased.
Took nearly an hour to reach the hotel from the airport - traffic at 2.30pm was chaotic - the hustle and bustle of Istanbul - quite a change from our quiet little haven of Dubrovnik. The drive was not as I had expected - very modern, excellent roads, green parklands with flowers everywhere. Our Peregrine hotel is in the old town in a nice part of the city. Met up with the other 3 people on tour along with our tour guide and went to a local restaurant for dinner. We leave early in the morning for a visit to the Blue Mosque and then head out for a long drive to Ankara. We will have much more time to explore Istanbul at the end of the trip when we are spending 3 more nights here.
