Ikea, Volvo and ABBA......what more could a person wish for

ABBA is still big in Sweden - they even have a free ABBA Museum in the airport which I will look at when we are back there tomorrow night. Sweden is hosting Eurovision 2013 and the finals are tonight - the host city is Malmo way down in the south. Apparently when you are Swedish you live and breathe Eurovision.

Took a bus tour round the city this morning followed by a canal tour leaving the city behind and passing beautiful and famous buildings entering the Djurgarden canal - on the way back a fabulous view of Stockholm opens up to be seen from the water. Much of Stockholm has a french feel to it and we were to learn that many of the streets were designed to copy Paris tree-lined streets and wide avenues. Although the weather was misty this morning, by the time we went out for dinner, the sun was shining brilliantly, as we have found often to be the case at this time of year.

Discovered a delightful chocolate shop on our way to dinner so bought some marzipan and nougat for supper and continued in search of dinner. As we enjoyed our dinner so much last night, we revisited the same restaurant for reindeer again (sorry Rudolf) and salmon - cooked to perfection. Waffle ice cream cones seem to be go in Stockholm so we joined the locals - pistachio for me - chocolate for Gary - very nice way to finish dinner.

We are staying in a very lovely part of the old town overlooking the harbour so strolled round for an hour or so after dinner - the sun doesn't set till about 9.30pm and everyone is out and about walking dogs, jogging etc. - just enjoying the beautiful evening.

Just love these buildings

A real French feel to the city

So much like Paris

Our hotel is on the right

More gorgeous flowers

A bridge over one of Stockholm's many canals

We were told a member of ABBA lives here

And no we did not see one Ikea store and yes every 3rd or 4th car is a Volvo.

We are off to Helsinki late tomorrow afternoon so we have nearly another full day to further explore this beautiful city.
