Leisurely Sunday in NY

Sunshine today though temps are still low - 14 high for today. While waiting for the bus we saw a squirrel running through the grass and flowers - too fast to even see again yet alone take a photo

It's amazing that in the week we have been here spring is really taking shape - the trees are shooting and the flowers are blooming - it is like time lapse photography. We are noticing our street in particular - the trees were brown last week - this week they are green.

Come out squirrel wherever you are

Caught the Riverside Park bus up to the top of Manhattan through Harlem - we didn't venture off the bus as we were the only white people to be seen. Got off at Washington Heights to change bus and come back downtown via Lexington Avenue all the way down to City Hall. The subway is great to get from A to B quickly but underground you obviously see nothing. Buses are slower but you see so much along the way.

                                               Just love these fire escapes

Hopped off the bus and had a look at Bloomingdales - more high end store than Macys - quite salubrious interiors - too expensive to buy - but nice to window shop. Not as many shoes as Macys though - still can't believe the size of that department.

Passed by the Empire State Building and the queue was ridiculous - we will go there Monday night round dusk to see the lights come on - we have express passes so the queues won't worry us - hopefully.

One of the many thousand hot dog stalls round town - we have yet to pluck up the courage to try one.

Another delicious dinner from our local deli

Finished our bus ride on Central Park eastside, caught the crosstown bus to westside and Broadway to our favourite deli to pick up dinner again. Very easy to find our way round with the street numbers - took a couple of days to work it out but now we are like locals.

  1. What a wonderful time you have been having in NY...you have seen so much of this BIG city in only a few days...fantastic photos!! Brings back memories of our short trip to the Big Apple 5 years ago. Great that it is now sunny albeit still a little cool. It is amazing how the trees and flowers change in only a matter of days...change of season that we don't experience in Brisbane. We noticed this particularly in Vancouver...such a transformation from winter to spring. Seems to be a good local deli - delicious looking food...like the idea of never having to cook. Always knew you were going to enjoy The Lion King...but was a bit worried Paul and Susie might have raved about it too much and your expectations may have been too high. Enjoy your final days exploring NY and hope your trip to Washington is not affected too much with all the increased security with the bombing at the Boston marathon today. Take care! Love from Lyndal and Gary
