We said our farewells to beautiful Slovenia this morning and drove to the hilltop town of Motovun - a simple medieval town - lovely views - the region is called the Tuscany of Croatia. We had a lovely lunch sampling the local delicacy - truffles in pasta followed by truffle icecream - all washed down with local red and white wines. Truffles are expensive - $5000 a kg for the black truffles with the white ones slightly cheaper. Don't really know why - they taste a bit like mushrooms. I have signs of Gary's cold now but the wines seem to have done our colds nothing but good so we may have a follow up bottle tonight at dinner.
After lunch we headed for the Adriatic and to the fishing port of Rovinj - a stunning town dating back to the 13th century with an architecturally intact old town. Our hotel is right on the harbour and we have a balcony room with a most amazing view. Sitting on the balcony as I write before we all meet up for a walk through town and dinner at a local restaurant. It doesn't get much better than this - this is what travel is all about.
