Montenegro and Kotor Bay........July 23

An early start this morning - we had to meet the bus down the road - buses, even mini buses like the one today are not able to reach our apartment as the roads are very narrow and cars are parked everywhere. Another beautiful morning for a stroll. The bus was on time so us and the Rodruiguz family of 5 (mum, dad and 3 teenage kids) plus Mario our driver/guide were off to neighbouring Montenegro. We cross the border - very slow - heaven knows what they do when they disappear with your passport. The drive around UNESCO listed Kotor Bay is spectacular - it is called Europe's southernmost fjord - the mountains descend almost directly into the sea. We stop in Kotor - well known for its nautical traditions and its city walls which stretch up the mountainside. Time for a coffee and a walk through the old town. Unusual - Montenegro is not in the EU but the currency is the euro. Dates back to their ties with Germany - when Germany switched to the euro, so did Montenegro.

Next stop was to admire the view of the Island of St Stefan, now a private island owned by the Russians - lovely spot. Then on to the busy tourist town of Budva - we found a lovely quiet restaurant off the beaten track for lunch and then a walk along the beach and the cliffs. Beach prices - 35 euro ($50) for 2 for the day - this entitles you to 2 lounges and 1 umbrella. No food to be taken in - food and drinks available on site. It was a private beach but them most of the beaches are.

On the way back we took a different route and shortened the journey by taking a ferry across the Bay of Kotor. Another wonderful day in a spectacular part of the world.

No interest here in the royal baby - who is Queen Elizabeth they ask.

Just wish Gary could relax

Excellent salads
