We had a traditional dinner at the waterfront last night - slow cooked beef and vegetables - so so - not as tender as I thought it would be.We met the 6 new members of our tor group - from Sydney, Perth and Adelaide. 4 of us then walked back into town - Split comes alive at night with a live band playing on the promenade. We had a champagne at a small bar and listened to the music - The place was packed - families, couples, small groups - great fun.
Next morning we headed to the town of Trigor situated on a small island - we had lunch and headed back to Split for a tour of the city. Split dates back some 1800 years when a Roman Emperor built a residence for his retirement years.Within this palace grew a city which UNESCO proclaimed a World Heritage Site. Today it is a warren of narrow cobblestone streets - we were passing buildings and walking on streets that date back to the 3rd century - hard to get my head around that. Afterwards a few of the girls went shopping, without the guys, for shoes of course. We had a great time - most of us went home happy!! That night 5 of us found a seafood restaurant and had a marvellous meal, finished off yet again with another superb gelato. We went back to our bar for more champagne and then to t promenade and another band was playing - Tina Turner, Doobie Brothers, Gloria Gaynor, Frankie Valli - they had a wonderful repertoire. the whole place was singing along and dancing - can't remember the last time we had so much fun. Just before midnight we realised we had a 7am start and had a quick walk back to the hotel - the time just slipped away. What a great time we are having on this trip.
