Mljet Island...........July 17

We had to be dragged from the hotel this morning - no one wanted to leave - the setting and the views were amazing but move on we must. More ferry rides today - we had a 2 hour drive to the end of the island where we caught a ferry back to the mainland - the scenery was amazing once again. The Adriatic Coast has been wonderful - not quite as dramatic as the cliffs on the Amalfi Coast but far more pleasant to drive along -  fewer tourists - the area has not been developed and exploited - not yet anyway - who knows what it will be like in 10 years from now. Back on the mainland the region is known for its oysters and mussels - we had a table reserved for us at a local restaurant and we were not disappointed - what a feast we had. We were not able to linger over lunch today as we had yet another ferry to catch to the island of Mljet and drive to the end of the island staying in the only hotel on the island nestling in the shores of Pomena Harbour just outside the national park. On the way we stopped off at a small restaurant where we had a platter of local meat and seafood waiting for us. The restaurant also produces its own white wine (not to my liking). The food was delicious - sausages, pork, chicken, beef, calamari, potatoes, salad, vegetables - on a balcony overlooking the mountains covered in vineyards. We then had an hour's drive to our hotel watching the sun set over the mountains - tomorrow we will go down to the harbour to watch it again. Am sitting in the hotel now overlooking the harbour - another magical view. Have a busy day tomorrow - walks, bike riding and canoeing in the National Park. Another fabulous day - it must be sounding repititious by now - but we are having the most perfect time here.

Another fabulous seafood lunch
How could we resist feeding this little one
