Dubrovnik - the Jewel of the Adriatic.....July 19

We took the ferry back to the mainland and about 1 hours drive to Dubrovnik with a couple of stops on the way to look at the roman ruins and the fortifications. The drive coming in looking down on Dubrovnik was amazing - there was a cruise ship in port which blocked out half the city. We were to learn there are 2 ports here and the cruise ships do not come into the old town. We had lunch in a restaurant overlooking the smaller boat harbour where the ferries and day trip boats depart from - we are to take one of these tomorrow. After lunch we did a city tour for a couple of hours - very warm and quite busy. We will walk the city walls one day next week in the cool of late afternoon. We think we will have a very nice time over the next week in this gorgeous part of the world. Our hotel for the next 2 nights is not in the old town - we all walked down to a little cove about 500 metres from the hotel and had a lovely dinner - mostly seafood - fish, marinated anchovies (a speciality in Croatia), squid, prawns, tuna - all washed down with local beers, wine and champagne plus the now obligatory gelato on the walk home. Another enjoyable day and evening in Croatia!
